Why Is Lazy Loading Enabled by Default?
Overview
Shoppers always expect e-commerce sites to load in a jiffy so that they can check out their favorite products to quickly make the purchase decision.
To ensure all pages created via AfterShip Page Builder load quickly, lazy loading is enabled by default. Here are the details you should keep in mind:
Please note that lazy loading is enabled by default for the pages created after 23rd Feb 2021. In case you want to enable it for the pages that were created before, publish them again.
π What does lazy loading mean?
Lazy loading, aka on-demand loading, is a technique designed for preserving bandwidth and improving page loading speed.
In laymanβs language, lazy loading ensures that the browser loads the necessary content first instead of doing bulk loading (loading all the content at once). It helps to increase page loading speed.
π€ How does lazy loading help?
β Improves initial loading time
The major benefit of lazy loading is it trims down the page loading time to enhance website experience for visitors. It delays the loading of files like images, videos, etc. to reduce the initial page weight for faster loading.
β Boosts search engine optimization
Lazy loading makes your pages load faster to boost your SEO results. It happens because all major search engines consider page speed as a key factor while ranking your page.
π What else can I do to make my created pages load faster?
π Optimize your images: Uploading high-quality product images surely plays a role in increasing sales growth, but they make a negative impact on overall page speed as well. So, always optimize your images in a way that reduces their size without compromising on the quality
π Properly uninstall unnecessary apps: There are a gamut of free apps available on Shopify app store, but not everyone is beneficial for your store. Therefore, make sure that you only have important apps installed and remove the unnecessary ones to increase page loading speed
Note: The code of some apps stay with your Shopify store, even when you uninstall them. Thus, manually edit your Shopify store code by navigating to the theme.liquid file. Do it carefully, otherwise you may end up ruining the structure of your store.
π Avoiding doing too many redirects: Internal and external linking are usually done to redirect store visitors to other relatable and important pages to tempt them to take the desired action. But adding too many redirects also slows down your page, so put limited links if itβs really required
